To further improve the quality of National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) project applications, the School of Life Sciences held the first batch of 2023 NSFC project presentation activities on the morning of November 3 in Conference Room 822 of the Teaching Main Building.
The activity specially invited three expert reviewers, including Professor Bai Jin, Director of the Laboratory of Jiangsu Institute of Cancer Biotherapy, Professor Zhou Xiuping from the Key Laboratory of the Institute of Neurological Diseases, and Professor Xiao Cheng from the School of Anesthesiology. Chaired by Professor Gao Can, Dean of the School of Life Sciences, the activity was attended by school leaders and faculty members.
Five teachers including Zhu Zuobin, Chen Renjin, Zhang Baole, Du Wenlong and Wang Shiyu delivered individual project presentations. Professor Bai Jin put forward valuable suggestions concerning the title design of application forms, selection of research objects, project innovation, research continuity, as well as the rational presentation of research foundations and research achievements. Professor Zhou Xiuping provided new insights for the teachers in terms of project extensibility, accuracy of key details in application documents, and the essential role of basic research. Professor Xiao Cheng offered targeted guidance and revision suggestions on key points such as the biological fulcrum of project research, the planning of research priorities, and the exploration of core mechanistic mechanisms.
Through in-depth discussions and comprehensive comments from the three professors, the five participating teachers acquired new ideas for project planning and application writing for the 2023 NSFC funding program.
