On December 28, 2019, the 1st Postgraduate Research and Academic Exchange Conference of the School of Life Sciences was successfully held in Classroom 102 of the Information Building. Four students from the School of Life Sciences, namely Chen Weicong, Chen Lei, Hong Xiaoliang and Wang Yi, delivered an excellent lecture for participating students, sharing commonly-used experimental methods and practical research experience in scientific practice.

At the beginning of the conference, Chen Weicong shared his personal insights and experiences during postgraduate studies, which won warm applause from all attendees. Subsequently, Chen Lei gave a detailed explanation of the precautions for cell culture and common contamination problems in cell culture experiments, and shared valuable practical experience and lessons learned from his own research practice. Afterwards, Hong Xiaoliang elaborated on the principles, operational procedures, key precautions and result analysis methods of Western Blot experiments in a simple and easy-to-understand manner, answering students’ on-site questions thoroughly. Finally, Wang Yi, majoring in zoology, provided a systematic introduction and valuable personal experience regarding commonly-used literature retrieval software tools, efficient literature searching and reading strategies, and scientific experimental design.

Centering on the disciplinary characteristics of life sciences, the exchange activity shared logical thinking methods for literature sorting and rich experimental experience. It built an efficient face-to-face communication platform for students, promoted interdisciplinary exchanges and mutual learning, and fostered a strong academic atmosphere in the school.
