To strengthen academic exchanges among faculty members, the 9th session of the Academic Salon of the School of Life Sciences was successfully held in Conference Room 822 of the Teaching Main Building on the afternoon of November 16. Dr. Liu Yong delivered a thematic report for graduate supervisors and frontline teachers of the school. The report was entitled “Patch-clamp recording of glutamate receptor ion channel activities in neuroscience research”. Dr. Liu mainly introduced the basic principles and major modes of patch-clamp electrophysiological recording, the basic structure and functions of nerve cell synapses, and the patterns of synaptic transmission. He also illustrated the structural and functional regulation of ionotropic glutamate receptors, as well as the key indicators for recording ionotropic glutamate receptor currents via patch-clamp technique and their applications in neuroscience research, covering research achievements related to the E/I ratio, evoked EPSCs, mEPSCs, AMPA/NMDA ratio, paired-pulse ratio, and LTP.
Following the report, Dr. Liu Yong conducted in-depth discussions with participating teachers on scientific research topics including protein kinases and receptor trafficking, brain region localization, and the applications of patch-clamp technology. The event created a favorable academic and research atmosphere for the school.
