School of Life Sciences Successfully Holds the 7th Session of the 2022 Academic Salon Series

To strengthen academic communication among faculty members, the School of Life Sciences launched an academic salon activity on the afternoon of November 2, with all faculty members in attendance. Professor Zhang Baole delivered a lecture themed “Mechanism Study on Abnormally High Transcription of the GDNF Gene in Glioblastoma Cells”, focusing on the research of the occurrence and development mechanisms of glioma.

GDNF is significantly highly expressed in glioma cells. To clarify the underlying molecular mechanism, Professor Zhang’s team revealed the regulatory mechanism of its high expression from genetic and epigenetic perspectives. The main research contents include verifying that the high expression of GDNF is independent of gene mutations, illustrating the correlation between DNA methylation and elevated GDNF transcription, and uncovering the mechanism by which histone acetylation induces excessive GDNF transcription.

During the salon, Professor Zhang shared years of research experience and research achievements in glioma studies, and conducted in-depth discussions on key scientific issues with participating teachers. The activity greatly stimulated faculty’s enthusiasm for scientific research.
