School of Life Sciences Successfully Holds the 5th Session of the 2022 Academic Salon Series

On the afternoon of October 12, the 5th session of the 2022 Academic Salon Series of the School of Life Sciences was successfully held in Conference Room 822 of the Teaching Main Building. Dr. Ding Xiaoyue, a newly joined faculty member, delivered a thematic lecture titled “Exploration on the Molecular Evolution Mechanisms of Abdominal Testis Cryptorchidism and the Maintenance of Healthy Spermatogenesis in Mammals” for teachers of the school.

Based on functional analysis via gene editing technology, the lecture explored the influence of the testicular descent-related gene RXFP2 on cryptorchidism in mammals with abdominal testes. By integrating comparative genomics, evolutionary genomics and functional experiments, Dr. Ding elaborated on the molecular evolution and functional changes of spermatogenesis-related genes, as well as the genetic mechanisms underlying the maintenance of healthy spermatogenesis in abdominal testicular mammals.

After the lecture, participating teachers conducted in-depth academic discussions with Dr. Ding on research advances in infertility-related disorders, including the etiology, disease prediction and animal models of human cryptorchidism.
