On the afternoon of September 14, the 2nd session of the 2022 Academic Salon Series of the School of Life Sciences was successfully held in Conference Room 822 of the Teaching Main Building. Professor Liu Yi delivered a thematic report for graduate supervisors and frontline teachers of the school. The report was titled “Design and Synthesis of Hydrogen Sulfide Donor-Conjugated NLRP3 Inflammasome Inhibitors and Their Application in Neuronal Pyroptosis in Diabetic Encephalopathy”.
Professor Liu focused on the latest research progress and achievements regarding the pathogenesis and clinical therapeutic drugs of Diabetic Encephalopathy (DE). Based on the pathological characteristics of diabetic encephalopathy, he illustrated the strategy for identifying potential drug targets. Following soft drug principles and molecular hybridization principles in drug design, his research team designed and synthesized novel NLRP3 inflammasome inhibitors conjugated with hydrogen sulfide donors with synergistic effects. The study further explored whether the synthesized compounds could synergistically inhibit neuronal pyroptosis and thereby ameliorate diabetic encephalopathy.
After the informative report, Professor Liu Yi conducted in-depth discussions with participating teachers on key scientific issues of the research. He also shared valuable experience concerning topic selection and manuscript writing for fund applications.
