On August 27, the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) officially announced the review results of the 2025 National Natural Science Foundation projects. Our school performed outstandingly in this year's review, with a total of 16 National Natural Science Foundation projects approved, including 8 General Program projects and 8 Young Scientists Fund projects. The total number of approved projects reached a record high, increasing by 23.1% compared with last year; the total approved funding amounted to 6.32 million yuan, rising by 24.7% year-on-year. We continue to rank first among all schools of Xuzhou Medical University, which fully demonstrates the school's profound accumulation and strong development momentum in discipline construction and scientific research.
The achievement of this excellent result benefits from the school's systematic planning and forward-looking layout for the construction of basic medical disciplines. In recent years, under the strong leadership and vigorous support of the university party committee, our school has continuously strengthened discipline construction, actively broken the boundaries of traditional disciplines, vigorously promoted interdisciplinary integration, and gradually refined and formed three distinctive research directions: "Pathogenic Organisms and Host Immune Metabolism", "Brain Function and Brain Diseases", and "Medical Biotechnology and Translational Medicine". These efforts have helped 4 disciplines of our university, including Neuroscience and Behavior, Biology and Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Genetics, and Immunology, enter the top 1% of ESI global rankings.
Taking this breakthrough in project approval as a new starting point, the school will continue to build consensus, concentrate on research, and make joint efforts to tackle key problems. We will further strengthen disciplinary advantages, stimulate innovation momentum, continuously promote the basic medical discipline to a higher level, make greater contributions to the construction of Jiangsu Provincial High-Level University of our university, and strive to write a new chapter in scientific research and discipline construction.
