On December 6, the 2025 Forum on Cutting-Edge Developments in Basic Medical Sciences, hosted by the Jiangsu Key Laboratory of Immunity and Metabolism, the Jiangsu International Joint Laboratory of Immunity and Metabolism, and the School of Basic Medical Sciences of Xuzhou Medical University, was successfully held in Xuzhou, Jiangsu Province. With the theme of "Pathogen Infection and Host Immune Metabolism", the forum focused on major viral infectious diseases. Centering on key research directions including molecular virology, in vivo and in vitro models, as well as innovative target and drug development, it conducted in-depth discussions on the latest advances and future trends in relevant fields, attracting a large number of renowned experts and scholars in this area.
At the opening ceremony, Professor Zheng Kuiyang, former President of Xuzhou Medical University and Director of the Jiangsu International Joint Laboratory of Immunity and Metabolism, delivered a welcome speech. He extended a warm welcome to all guests, reviewed the development history of Xuzhou Medical University, and emphasized the critical role of pathogen infection research, vaccine development and immunological studies in responding to emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases. The opening ceremony was presided over by Professor Wang Wenshi, Vice Dean of the School of Basic Medical Sciences of Xuzhou Medical University.
The conference brought together many top domestic scholars. Distinguished experts including Professor Yang Dongliang and Professor Liu Jia from Tongji Medical College of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Professor Xia Yuchen from Wuhan University, Professor Chen Jieliang, Professor Deng Qiang and Professor Wu Yanling from Fudan University, Professor Ding Qiang from Tsinghua University, Professor Wang Lin and Professor Xiang Kuanhui from Peking University, Professor Zhang Zhenfeng from Southern University of Science and Technology, Professor Si Longlong from Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology, Professor Zhan Peng from Shandong University, and Professor Wang Wenshi from Xuzhou Medical University delivered keynote speeches at the forum. Participants engaged in in-depth exchanges around core topics such as viral infection mechanisms, immune clearance, and new clinical treatment strategies. They also shared the latest breakthrough research findings and unique insights into hot topics including the application of novel antiviral technologies (e.g., RNA targeting and protein degradation) in vaccine development and drug research. The venue was filled with a strong academic atmosphere and lively discussions.
At the closing ceremony, Professor Wang Wenshi delivered a concluding speech. He pointed out that this conference is not only a high-level academic exchange event, but also a grand gathering that promotes cooperation and builds consensus. It presented a new landscape of development in the antiviral field, spanning from basic research to clinical translation, and from traditional targets to cutting-edge technologies.
