To further enhance students' awareness of career planning and professional development and to fully leverage the exemplary role of outstanding alumni, the School of Basic Medical Sciences recently organized a Career Education and Employment Guidance Sharing Session. The event invited Ma Xiangyu, a 2023 graduate, and Yuan Dongchen, a 2025 graduate from the School of Basic Medical Sciences, as keynote speakers. Attendees included Han Hongliu, Party Secretary of the School, Vice Dean Song Yuanjian, and over a hundred students from the School. The session was hosted by counselor Wang Na.

Party Secretary Han first extended a warm welcome once again to the 2025 cohort of new students. As part of the "First Lesson for New Students," Secretary Han analyzed the current employment landscape. She emphasized the critical role of scientific career planning and employment guidance in students' long-term development, encouraging them to base their plans on their academic disciplines while maintaining a global perspective. She urged students to proactively plan their career paths, advising graduating students to prepare early. She also highlighted that the School would continue to offer ongoing career guidance to help students "avoid unnecessary detours" in their job search journeys.

Ma Xiangyu, a Ph.D. student at Sungkyunkwan University, delivered a presentation titled "Aiming for Study Abroad, Focusing on the Present." Drawing from her overseas academic and research experiences, she shared insights into doctoral studies from an international perspective. She detailed the characteristics of foreign research environments, academic resources, and cross-cultural learning. From practical angles such as application preparation, topic selection, and interactions with supervisors, she broke down the key points of applying for and pursuing overseas doctoral programs. She also systematically outlined the complete pathway from deciding to study abroad to successfully obtaining a CSC scholarship, providing valuable references for students interested in pursuing further education overseas.

Dr. Yuan Dongchen from the School of Basic Medical Sciences shared her insights under the theme "Planning Leads the Way, Perseverance Takes You Far: How to Strategically Prepare for Your Ph.D. Journey." She shared her personal experiences and thoroughly analyzed the long-term "input-reward" logic of transitioning from a master's to a doctoral program. She systematically outlined the core preparation stages for domestic doctoral studies, including research training, supervisor selection, time management, and psychological adjustment. Emphasizing the importance of early planning and persistent effort in academic growth, she provided practical guidance for students planning to pursue further studies in China.

During the interactive Q&A session, students actively raised questions on topics such as Ph.D. applications, improving research capabilities, and balancing academic and personal life. Both speakers patiently addressed the inquiries, creating a lively and engaging atmosphere.

This sharing session integrated perspectives from both domestic and international contexts, offering a comprehensive analysis of various aspects of graduate student doctoral applications. It effectively broadened students' academic horizons and career planning perspectives. The School will continue to integrate high-quality resources and organize a series of guidance activities tailored to students' developmental needs, supporting them in steadily advancing their academic and career paths and promoting higher-quality employment outcomes.
