To help students broaden their career development paths, break information barriers, and improve employment quality, the School of Basic Medical Sciences held a special sharing session themed "A Comprehensive Analysis of Doctoral Studies and Postdoctoral Career" on January 8. The session specially invited outstanding alumnus of the Class of 2018, Dr. Hongyuan Zhang, a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Cardiovascular Science at the University of Manchester, to return to his alma mater for exchanges. Hongliu Han, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School, Professor Hong Sun, Counselor Na Wang, and more than 40 graduate students attended the session, which was hosted by Lu Fu from the Department of Physiology.
Hongliu Han extended a warm welcome to Dr. Hongyuan Zhang for returning to his alma mater. Combined with the current employment situation, she encouraged students to actively seize opportunities and continuously enhance their core competitiveness. She stated that the School will continue to integrate resources to support students' academic and career development, and advised everyone to integrate personal growth into national needs and realize greater value in social services.
Based on his complete academic experience from Xuzhou Medical University to the University of Manchester, Dr. Hongyuan Zhang systematically shared insights on further study choices and a comparison of doctoral studies at home and abroad. He focused on expounding the importance of supervisor selection, research direction matching, and academic platforms, providing students with practical suggestions for overseas further study.
During the interactive session, Dr. Hongyuan Zhang gave detailed answers to students' questions. Professor Hong Sun shared her experience in building a positive supervisor-student relationship, and Counselor Wang Na elaborated on the important role of systematic career planning in personal development. The in-depth on-site interaction effectively built a communication bridge between current students and alumni.
Taking the "Global Career Access" series of activities as an opportunity, by building platforms, integrating resources, and providing systematic guidance, the School will continue to help students enhance their core competitiveness and international perspective, and promote high-quality employment for students.
