The On-campus Selection Competition for the 12th National Medical Innovation Competition for College Students and the Belt and Road International Contest Held Successfully

To further stimulate the innovative potential of medical students, enhance their scientific research and practical capabilities, and fully prepare for the 12th National Medical Innovation Competition for College Students and the Belt and Road International Contest, our university successfully held its on-campus selection competition on April 25. Co-organized by the School of Basic Medical Sciences and the National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center for Basic Medical Science, the event gathered 99 teams from 12 schools across the university, with over 500 Chinese and international students participating, hitting a record high in both event scale and participant number.

Professor Zheng Kuiyang, Advisor to the National Medical Innovation Competition for College Students & the Belt and Road International Contest and former President of Xuzhou Medical University, Ge Yuanyuan, Secretary of the University Youth League Committee, leaders of relevant schools, evaluation experts, and members of the leadership team of the School of Basic Medical Sciences attended the opening ceremony. The ceremony was presided over by Kong Delong, Vice Dean of the School of Basic Medical Sciences. At the opening ceremony, Professor Zheng Kuiyang delivered an opening address. Professor Pan Wei from the School of Basic Medical Sciences and student Zhou Yue from the First School of Clinical Medicine spoke successively as the representative of judges and contestants respectively.

The competition consisted of two major categories: innovative research and experimental design. Each team conducted on-site presentations and defenses focusing on project approval, technical routes, feasibility and innovation, fully demonstrating solid scientific research foundations, dynamic innovative thinking and efficient teamwork capabilities. The expert evaluation panel conducted comprehensive assessments from multiple dimensions including presentation quality, demonstration performance and team collaboration. In total, 23 first prizes, 26 second prizes and 30 third prizes were awarded.

At the closing ceremony, Professor Hu Dianlei, Vice Dean of the First School of Clinical Medicine, delivered a concluding comment on behalf of the evaluation panel. He spoke highly of the event organization and contestants’ performances, and put forward targeted optimization suggestions regarding contestants’ appearance and attire, PPT design, presentation skills, content expression and document standardization.

As a high-level academic competition in China’s medical education sector, this event serves as a crucial platform for our university to cultivate top-tier innovative talents. Taking this selection competition as an opportunity, the School of Basic Medical Sciences and the National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center for Basic Medical Sciences will further strengthen the cultivation of students’ scientific and innovative capabilities, refine competition projects meticulously, and strive for outstanding achievements in the regional semi-finals and national finals.
