Recently, the 11th National Physiology Knowledge Competition, co-hosted by Xuzhou Medical University, the National Physiology Knowledge Competition Organizing Committee and Jiangsu Society for Physiological Sciences, and undertaken by Nanjing University, has come to a successful conclusion. Vice President Li Haiyang of Xuzhou Medical University, Secretary Han Hongliu and Vice Dean Kong Delong of the School of Basic Medical Sciences attended the opening ceremony. Vice President Li Haiyang delivered an opening speech. Distinguished Chinese and foreign guests including Professor Lin Mujun, Vice Chairman of the Chinese Physiological Society, Professor Zheng Fang from Kiel University and the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg in Germany, and Professor Zhu Jingning from the School of Life Sciences, Nanjing University, were present at the event. The ceremony was presided over by Professor Sun Hong.
As the initiator and co-organizer of the competition, the School of Basic Medical Sciences attached great importance to the event and made elaborate arrangements. Giving full play to its advantages in physiology teaching and research, the Department of Physiology made comprehensive and meticulous arrangements throughout the whole process from the overall organization of the preliminary competition to the coordination of the final competition, ensuring the efficient and orderly holding of the event. The participating team of our university achieved outstanding results with solid professional knowledge of physiology and excellent on-site adaptability, winning 1 First Prize and 4 Second Prizes.
Adhering to the core philosophy of "building a bridge through competitions, promoting teaching through competitions, and encouraging learning through competitions", the event is a highly authoritative and influential competition in the field of physiology in China. The competition consisted of two stages: an online preliminary round and an offline final round. Held on March 10, the online preliminary competition attracted more than 6,000 medical students from 152 universities nationwide, setting a new record in both the number of participating institutions and participants. The offline final, held from May 16 to 17 at Nanjing University, was conducted entirely in English, where 69 teams from 34 universities competed in the final showdown. In the concurrent physiology teaching seminar, faculty representatives from the Department of Physiology exchanged teaching experiences with peers from various universities, which further promoted the improvement of physiology teaching quality across the country.
The successful hosting of the competition and the excellent performance of our participating students fully demonstrate the remarkable teaching achievements of the School of Basic Medical Sciences, and serve as a vivid practice of our university’s integration of competition and teaching for cultivating high-quality medical talents. In the future, the School of Basic Medical Sciences will continue to deepen teaching reform, build more high-quality academic and competition platforms, support students’ growth and development, and contribute to the high-quality development of medical education.
