From August 11 to 17, the "2024 Jiangsu Postgraduate Life Sciences Summer School" was successfully held, hosted by the Jiangsu Province Science Category 2 Graduate Education Steering Committee and jointly organized by the Graduate School of Xuzhou Medical University and the School of Life Sciences of Xuzhou Medical University. This summer school specially invited more than ten senior experts and well-known scholars from home and abroad to give academic reports. The week-long academic feast attracted outstanding graduate students and senior undergraduate students from biology, basic medicine and related disciplines from major universities across the country to gather together to discuss the latest frontiers and hot issues in the field of life sciences.
On the morning of August 12, the "2024 Jiangsu Postgraduate Life Science Summer School" kicked off in the Lecture Hall 101 of the Administration Building on the main campus of Xuzhou Medical University. This summer school officially set sail. The opening ceremony of the summer school was hosted by Professor Gao Can, Dean of the School of Life Sciences of Xuzhou Medical University. Professor Cao Junli, Vice President of Xuzhou Medical University, Professor Yin Xiaoxing, Chairman of Jiangsu Province Science Category 2 Graduate Education Steering Committee, and Professor Zhang Qing, Dean of the Graduate School of Xuzhou Medical University, delivered speeches respectively as special guests. They expressed a warm welcome to the participants and placed high hopes on them. They hoped that the students would think positively, study diligently, be brave in innovation, pursue excellence, pay attention to communication, and enhance friendship during the summer school.
This summer school specially invited Professor Xu Nanjie from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Professor Liu Yan from Nanjing Medical University, Professor Wu Shaoyuan from Jiangsu Normal University, and Professor Kyeung Min Joo from Sungkyunkwan University in South Korea. Well-known experts and scholars such as Professor Shi Qinghua from the University of Science and Technology of China and Hefei National Laboratory for Microscale Physical Sciences, Professor Li Wei from the Guangzhou Women and Children's Medical Center, and Professor Zhu Guang from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology brought colorful academic reports to the students. Focusing on the theme of "Fundamentals and Frontier Progress of Medical Biology", the experts conducted in-depth discussions on cutting-edge fields such as medical genetics, genomic data analysis, and stem cell treatment of neurological diseases, which benefited the students a lot.
In addition, this summer school also specially invited Professor Zhang Licai from the School of Anesthesiology of Xuzhou Medical University, Professor Shen Xuewu from the Oriental Hospital Affiliated to Xuzhou Medical University, Professor Zhao Ningjun from the Affiliated Hospital, and young teachers from the School of Life Sciences Yu Yanan, Tang Chuanxi, Chen Renjin, and Du Wenlong to share with the students the exploration and insights of original discoveries in the scientific research process, mental health and self-psychological adjustment, and subject-specific courses. At the same time, they also conducted "cardiopulmonary resuscitation and The special training on "The Use of Life-Saving Artifact - AED" will protect the trainees' future scientific research and life.
In addition to wonderful academic reports, this summer school also focuses on practical teaching and academic exchanges. The trainees actively participated in practical courses and activities such as the ideological and political education course at the Huaihai Campaign Martyrs Memorial Hall, the industry-education integration course of the Jiangsu Institute of Cancer Biotherapy, the Yunlong Lake Ecological Civilization Innovation Practice Course, and the Exploration Journey from History to Modern Medicine. They personally experienced the inheritance of red genes and the development of modern life sciences and medicine, and stimulated their inner passion for scientific research. At the same time, this summer school held student exchange salon activities to allow students to display their scientific research results and learning experiences, actively conduct in-depth exchanges with experts and scholars, and promote the collision and integration of academic ideas.
Finally, the summer school held its graduation ceremony in Lecture Hall 101 of the Administration Building. Leaders such as Party Branch Secretary Li Chong, Dean Gao Can, and Deputy Secretary Zheng Peng of the School of Life Sciences issued honorary certificates to the outstanding students, affirmed their performance during the study period, and expressed heartfelt thanks to all the leaders, teachers, and volunteers who participated in the meeting.
This summer school relies on the dominant discipline of biology of Xuzhou Medical University and gives full play to the educational characteristics of cross-integration of biology and basic medical disciplines of Xuzhou Medical University in terms of topic selection and course setting. It aims to provide a platform for scientific research, learning and exchange for more outstanding students in biology, basic medicine and related disciplines, and hopes to be helpful to the students' future study and career development.
