The School of Life Sciences invited Yan Xiaodong, an industry professor from the school, to give a special academic lecture on "Application of Cryo-Electron Microscopy in New Drug Research and Development"

In order to strengthen school-enterprise cooperation, promote the integration of industry and education, and at the same time intensify exchanges between schools and enterprises in teaching and scientific research, on the morning of October 22, the School of Life Sciences invited Mr. Yan Xiaodong, an industry professor at the school, to conduct a special academic lecture on "Application of Cryo-Electron Microscopy in New Drug Research and Development" through an online Tencent meeting for teachers, students and scientific researchers of the school. The lecture was hosted by Liu Yi, Vice Dean of the School of Life Sciences.

Professor Yan Xiaodong is a PhD and postdoctoral fellow at Purdue University in the United States, a former associate professor at the University of California, San Diego, and the 2019 Wuxi Taihu Innovation Leading Talent. In recent years, Professor Yan Xiaodong has published nearly 30 SCI papers, and has undertaken a number of US NIH fund projects. In 2021, he was appointed as an industrial professor at Xuzhou Medical University, and is currently the vice president of cryo-electron microscopy at Wuxi Baiaode Bioscience Co., Ltd.

At the lecture, Professor Yan Xiaodong combined his many years of research experience to give vivid and detailed explanations one by one with actual cases from "the history of cryo-electron microscopy", "how to use cryo-electron microscopy", "cases of cryo-electron microscopy in drug discovery", "microED decomposition of small molecule structures", etc. During the interactive session, teachers, students and scientific researchers of Xuzhou Medical University conducted further exchanges and discussions with Professor Yan Xiaodong on the use, advantages and precautions of cryo-electron microscopy in scientific research work.

This lecture is rich in content and vivid cases, which can effectively play the active role of industrial professors in participating in school education and teaching and helping to cultivate high-tech talents, laying a solid foundation for the subsequent scientific research cooperation and teaching exchanges between schools and enterprises.
