On the morning of November 22, 2022, the School of Life Sciences of Xuzhou Medical University signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement with the Administration Committee of Xuzhou Yunlong Lake Scenic Area. The two parties jointly inaugurated the “Industry-University-Research Collaborative Innovation Education Base” and the “Labor Education Practice Base”, officially launching the comprehensive strategic cooperation program between the university and the scenic area. Zhang Lei, Secretary of the Party Working Committee and Director of the Yunlong Lake Scenic Area Administration Committee, Wu Hongmin, Deputy Director, together with Professor Gao Can (Dean), Professor Li Chong (Party Branch Secretary), Zheng Peng (Deputy Party Branch Secretary) and Professor Liu Yi (Vice Dean) of the School of Life Sciences, as well as Zhang Wenlong, Deputy Secretary of the University Youth League Committee, attended the ceremony. Other participants included relevant officials from the administration committee, all faculty members of the Biotechnology Department of the School of Life Sciences, and student representatives.
At the ceremony, Dean Gao Can expressed sincere gratitude to the administration committee for its long-term support and cooperation in talent cultivation, scientific research, labor education and the integration of industry, education and research. She stated that relying on the two practice bases and focusing on the transformation of scientific research achievements, the school can translate its disciplinary advantages into regional development strengths. This initiative will effectively improve the school’s capacity to tackle core technical problems in regional ecological civilization construction. Innovative labor education carried out through off-campus practice bases helps strengthen students’ practical abilities for employment and entrepreneurship, enhance the capacity of higher education to serve regional economic and social development, and align the school’s talent cultivation model with high-quality regional development. It also promotes in-depth integration between the university and local society, and fosters innovative biological talents capable of undertaking responsibilities in ecological civilization development. Dean Gao hoped that both sides will fully cooperate and faithfully implement follow-up work. Focusing on baseline biological surveys, biodiversity conservation, invasive species monitoring and specimen museum development, the two parties will strengthen coordinated linkage, closely integrate disciplinary construction with regional ecological civilization improvement, and embed the philosophy of industry-education integration and collaborative education into the whole process of talent training. By cultivating students’ innovative thinking and practical capabilities, the school will leverage high-level scientific research to support the high-quality ecological development of Yunlong Lake Scenic Area, a landmark urban cultural card of Xuzhou City.
Director Zhang Lei, on behalf of the Management Committee of Yunlong Lake Scenic Area, extended a warm welcome and sincere gratitude to all distinguished guests from Xuzhou Medical University attending the event. He noted that the Report to the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China clearly states that we must remember to maintain harmony between humanity and nature when planning our development, highlighting the fundamental and strategic position of ecological civilization construction. For the first time, it called for coordinated arrangements for education, science and technology, and talent work, which fully demonstrates the CPC Central Committee’s profound grasp of the internal logic linking the three fields, as well as its clear orientation to pursue coordinated efforts to build China into a country strong in education, science and technology, and talent in the overall drive for China’s modernization. This year also marks the first year for Xuzhou to develop the National Innovation Demonstration Zone for the Implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Centering on delivering the strategic arrangements outlined at the 20th CPC National Congress, guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, and adhering to the principles of innovative vision, problem orientation, multi-stakeholder participation, openness and sharing, the Yunlong Lake Scenic Area Management Committee will actively explore the establishment of a long-term and stable institutional mechanism for strategic cooperation with Xuzhou Medical University. Such cooperation covers ecological civilization-related fields including science popularization and publicity, social services, talent training, scientific research, transformation of scientific and technological achievements, and research on sustainable development.
Witnessed by representatives from both the scenic area and the university, Dean Gao Can and Director Zhang Lei signed a strategic cooperation agreement on behalf of the two parties, and jointly unveiled the Industry-University-Research Collaborative Education Innovation Base and the Labor Education Practice Base. After the ceremony, teachers and students from the School of Life Sciences went to the bases to carry out a themed labor practice activity titled “Embrace the Charm of Yunlong Lake Landscape, Practice Green Environmental Protection from Me”.
The joint establishment of the collaborative education innovation base and labor education practice base by Xuzhou Medical University and the Yunlong Lake Scenic Area Management Committee facilitates in-depth exchanges and integration in science, technology and culture between the two sides. It gives full play to their respective strengths and opens up a pathway connecting superior academic disciplines with the high-quality development of ecological civilization. This initiative helps translate the university’s scientific research achievements into tangible productive forces, elevate the high-quality ecological civilization construction of Yunlong Lake Scenic Area in the new era, optimize the ecological environment for citizens and tourists, and meet the people’s growing needs for a beautiful ecological environment in the new era.
