To help freshmen smoothly complete the transition from high school students to university students cognitively and psychologically, and familiarize them with internal and external campus management procedures to foster sound study and living norms, the School of Life Sciences delivered the second session of freshman orientation to all Class of 2024 students majoring in Biological Sciences in Classroom Main 2 on September 12, 2024.
Zheng Peng, Deputy Secretary of the General Party Branch, delivered a special report themed Our University. He focused on the overview of Xuzhou Medical University and the School of Life Sciences, introducing the university motto, disciplinary layout, organizational structure, as well as the school’s majors, training orientations, faculty and employment outcomes. Secretary Zheng emphasized that students of the School of Life Sciences are united, motivated and positive, while faculty are student-centered and wholeheartedly devoted. He encouraged freshmen to rationally plan their university life, build strong awareness of rules and develop good habits to get fully prepared for the upcoming academic journey.
Hong Xiaoran, counselor for the Class of 2024, shared vividly under the theme First Encounter with XZMU, Build Dreams in the School of Life Sciences – Freshmen Counselor Meet-and-Greet. Covering four sections: Who You Are, Who I Am, XZMU Life Guide and Your University Life, she presented basic information of the 2024 cohort, counselor responsibilities, unique features of Xuzhou City and XZMU, and the characteristics of college life. She also interacted with freshmen on Xuzhou’s climate, local cuisine and transportation. For many students leaving their parents and living in groups for the first time, she hoped Xuzhou’s delicious food and scenic spots could ease homesickness and help them adapt quickly.
Later, Ms. Hong gave a special lecture titled Financial Aid Policies Interpretation to deliver education through student support. She fully, timely and accurately briefed freshmen on national, social and university financial aid policies, aiming to resolve practical difficulties for students from low-income families. She encouraged recipients to cherish hard-won learning opportunities and repay their alma mater and society through diligent study and persistent efforts.
This orientation session helps freshmen integrate into class communities, dispel loneliness and adapt to new study and living environments at an early date.
