Spring rains nourish the earth, and scientific enthusiasm blooms. To spark students’ interest in research, broaden their scientific thinking and encourage undergraduates to join laboratories at an early stage, the School of Life Sciences hosted the event Tutors Gathering, Talk About Growth – Face-to-Face with Supervisors in Classroom C309 of the Science & Education Building on the afternoon of April 10, 2024. Distinguished faculty speakers included Professor Li An’an, Professor Hu Shuqun, Professor Song Yuanjian, Professor Zhang Baole, Associate Professor Chen Renjin, Associate Professor Zhu Zuobin, Associate Professor Liu Yingkui and Dr. Du Wenlong. Dean Gao Can, Deputy Secretary Zheng Peng, Teacher Wu Xiuxiang, all school counselors and over 200 students attended the session, presided over by Deputy Secretary Zheng Peng.
Dean Gao Can delivered the opening address, stating that cultivating scientific thinking and innovation awareness is critical for undergraduates. She urged students to nurture research curiosity and make long-term academic plans early.
Eight outstanding supervisors from different research fields took the stage one after another. They introduced their research areas, team training models, and held in-depth exchanges with students regarding team research achievements, laboratory facilities, teaching strengths and career prospects.
During the Q&A session, supervisors encouraged students to consolidate academic foundations, maintain good grades and sustain passion and perseverance for research. They patiently answered all questions about research studies and laboratory admission.
The successful launch of the Face-to-Face with Supervisors series drew on advanced university-level experience to build a two-way matching platform for teachers and students, integrating practice with learning and motivating undergraduates to engage in research as early as possible. It is expected that students will join laboratories promptly to pursue scientific studies, achieve early progress and deliver fruitful academic outcomes.
