On November 11, the "Yundong Cultural Block Cup" 2023 China Fitness Famous Mountain Xuzhou Yunlong Hiking Race officially kicked off. Hiking and long-distance running enthusiasts and fitness lovers from all over the country gathered by Yunlong Lake to challenge themselves and climb the mountain in Xuzhou. To guarantee the smooth running of the event, the School of Life Sciences actively responded to the volunteer recruitment call, organizing and recruiting 70 young volunteers across the university. Dedicated and responsible, they demonstrated the volunteer spirit of XZMU students with professional and thoughtful service during pre-race preparation, participant registration and race day.
On November 10, volunteers headed to Yundong Cultural Block to assist the organizers in packing race kits. Under staff guidance, they quickly got familiar with kit contents including race jerseys, drinking water and bread. Working in assembly lines with rigorous attitudes, they categorized groups and divided tasks, packing more than 2,000 participant kits to secure supplies for check-in.
At the crowded registration venue, volunteers were split into teams for the speed race group, fitness group and family group to assist with venue setup. With standard guiding gestures, patient replies and meticulous work, they greeted every participant, double-checked registration information, notified them of precautions, distributed kits and guided them through the full check-in procedures.
At 6 a.m. on November 11, all XZMU volunteers were fully equipped and headed to their posts with full enthusiasm. Divided into start & finish line team, track team and logistics team, they took positions at Xuzhou Concert Hall, Hundred Flowers Square, Wanfu Square and North Gate of Yunlong Mountain. Moving all over the venue, they fulfilled duties including route guidance, logistics coordination, personnel liaison and medal distribution, as well as garbage cleaning with earnest, meticulous service. Their hard work fully safeguarded the successful hosting of the hiking race.
On the track, competitors embodied perseverance and fighting spirit; off the track, volunteers interpreted dedication and commitment. In the cold early winter, XZMU young volunteers radiated brilliant youthful energy, practicing the volunteer spirit of dedication, friendship, mutual assistance and progress through practical actions. Their persistent figures formed a beautiful scenery along the mountain track.
