June 11, 2023 marked the 7th China Organ Donation Day, with the official theme "Stars in Sight, Walk in the Light". Since 2017, the China Organ Transplantation Development Foundation has called on all sectors of society to jointly host unified organ donation campaigns, advocating the selfless spirit of voluntary citizen organ donation and driving progress in China’s organ and body donation industry.
To leverage young students’ positive role in advancing organ donation and enhance public understanding, recognition and participation in organ transplantation, the School of Life Sciences partnered with the Affiliated Hospital of Xuzhou Medical University to hold a themed event on Youth Square of the main campus on the morning of June 11. Han Xiujuan and He Xiang, organ donation coordinators from the hospital’s Medical Affairs Office, Hong Xiaoran, Secretary of the School Youth League Committee, and more than 20 young volunteers attended.
Volunteers of the "Covenant of Life" team set up booths on campus, distributing brochures to passing teachers and students. They shared core knowledge including basic organ donation facts, voluntary registration channels, the difference between registration and actual donation, as well as information on the China Organ Transplantation Development Foundation and the Shi Yu Shou Volunteer Platform. The outreach deepened campus awareness and encouraged more people to sign up as voluntary donors.
The event drew crowds of faculty and students. One teacher completed organ donation registration on site after learning relevant policies in detail. Over a hundred college students signed their names and wrote best wishes on the message wall. Participants stated that organ donation is a noble cause that saves critically ill patients and embodies social progress. As medical students, they fully recognize its vital role in medical development and pledged to continuously promote voluntary donation to win wider social support.
Stars in sight, walk in the light. The School of Life Sciences will keep drawing on its medical disciplinary advantages, guide more teachers and students to participate in organ donation public welfare, foster a supportive social atmosphere and let the light of life pass on to more families.
